| Review: One of the better films Woody Allen has spent the last few years, with performances by Cate Blanchett as better emotionally unstable woman who is forced to come down from their privileged past and allow her sister Sally Hawkins as lower incomes. Script Allen often entertain even if winds at times (I looked at my watch more than once during the screening I attended) and its history seems uncomfortably reminiscent of A Streetcar Named Desire with Blanchett role Blanche Dubois, Sally Hawkins as Stella, Peter Sarsgaard as Mitch and Bobby Cannavale as Stanley Kowalski. It lacks the dramatic force and tension of sexual Tennessee Williams 'masterpiece', and in the end we are going urbane sophistication Allens compensate for it.There tendency in recent years to either island; over-praised Allen or tear him to pieces. I think this film deserves either fate not, pleasantly diverting if sometimes pretentious and derivative comedy / drama. Maybe that does not belong in the pantheon of great films like Woody Allen Annie Hall and Manhattan, but its not a curse or Scorpio Celebrity either. If Woody Allen brand is not so, I doubt it would soon come and go without notice as independently made drama with some pretty good acting nice that some gripping sequences at the same time in the end to be a little on the dull side. Due to the ongoing reputation on Allen, it will probably raise an Oscar nomination or two (For performance Blanchett and controversial screenplay Allen) as Allen still carries the name cache of referees. There were too many boring parts and exchange dismissal for that kind of attention for my money, but its high points makes me feel that leaving: rre way to spend an hour and a half. |
